The Space Inbetween

I’m very picky about the texture of fabrics, both in linens and clothing, and I’ve been on a hunt for a really soft set of sheets ever since my favorite set had an unfortunate run-in with a cheap pen in the dryer 5 years ago. I’ve found some reasonably soft flannel ones that are ok in the winter (all 3 weeks of it); I spent $4 at Big Lots on one really soft but misshapen jersey set that doesn’t really fit my bed and looks unintentionally tie-dyed; and I even ponied up for an outrageously expensive 400-thread-count organic cotton sheets that were disappointingly stiff and scratchy (those went right back to Crate & Barrel). I’ve bought an embarrassing number of sheet sets looking for the perfect ones, but all I’ve wound up with is a mismatched bed and a different color pillowcase on every pillow… and I still return to my threadbare childhood Care Bears sheets that are incredibly soft just because they’re falling apart.

So I was suspicious when Amazon suggested these bamboo-fiber sheets to me a couple of weeks ago. For one thing, I’ve gotten my hopes up about bed linens before only to see my dreams come crashing down in an itchy mess; for another thing… bamboo? Really? But they weren’t terribly expensive (I had a gift card, anyway), and the reviews were universally positive, so I figured it was worth a shot.

Let me tell you, friends: These are the absolute softest, most wonderful sheets you will ever sleep on. They’re quite lightweight — I need a light blanket even in summer, but I’d rather pile on layers than be sweltering under a single heavy sheet. The top sheet has a tiny bit more texture than the fitted sheet (which is almost slick), which is nice as the friction keeps you from getting all tangled up. And the best part is that you can buy extra pillowcases separately, so now all 5 pillows on my bed match my pretty chocolate-brown sheets!

I’m not usually one to go pimping products, but I just can’t stop telling people about how lovely these sheets are. So seriously: if you’re looking for some affordable, unbelievably soft bed linens, you cannot go wrong with these. I just bought two more sets to squirrel away in case Amazon stops selling them!
